At the beginning of 2023, I was preparing to publish my novel Leaving Cleveland. I had raised enough funds on Kickstarter to proof, design, and print my first novel at the end of 2022. Without the support of family, friends, and strangers worldwide, I am not sure I could have published my book. The book’s launch was highlighted with a trip back to Cleveland for a book signing at Mac’s Back-books, where I reconnected with old friends and cousins and made some new friends. I even visited the cemetery where my father, mother, and sister are buried. I sat on the gravestone and read them a chapter from my book.

At the Mayfield cemetery in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, reading a chapter to my parents and sister Melody I then had not one but two book signings at the Barnes and Noble in Denver, Colorado. I learned that not all book signings are equal; I had a better turnout the first time despite my efforts to get people to come the second time. That said, I did meet a few people who will recommend me to their organizations. You never know.
A couple of months ago, I received an email informing me that my book was being considered for nomination for the Sophie Brodie Medal. The medal is given to one author annually and nominated by the American Library Association. Click on the link to learn more; the winner will be announced in January 2024. Of course, my book is now part of the Jewish Book Council archives. Of course, you don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy my book; look at the great reviews I have been getting on Amazon.

You are probably wondering why there is a photo of an Egret on the blog. I am glad you asked. If you read my last post, I mentioned that my wife and I were taking a long overdue trip to Costa Rica; it was fabulous! I was totally inspired by the birds in the La Fortuna region. When I got back and had a chance to upload my images on my computer, I was inspired. I created a series of pictures called Herons and Egrets and sold them as fine art prints. I am still working on the site, but if you want a preview, click HERONS & EGRETS.
THAT IS ALL FOR NOW BUT…
I wish you a safe and wonderful holiday season and a healthy New Year. I hope to hear from you. Please subscribe and share my block; I have some big plans for 2024. Let me know if you want me to attend your book club virtually to discuss my book in 2024; please contact me or the Jewish Book Council.
Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars Those were the days…..Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2023
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s a fascinating story of the son of a holocaust survivor who finds himself thrown into the crazy world of celebrity photography and New York in the 1980s. Great read!

As the summer ends, the Fall flow of life begins. It has been established that my novel, Leaving Cleveland, has traveled more than I have. As a big thank you, I am offering an E-version of my book for only $2.99 till the end of August. After that the price will go up to $8.99. Purchase it here: Leaving Cleveland.
Goldberg Award:
The Goldberg Award is a competition that awards a writer’s debut novel about the Jewish Experience. Inaugurated in 1950, the National Jewish Book Awards is the longest-running North American awards program of its kind and is recognized as the most prestigious. The Awards are intended to recognize authors, and encourage reading, of outstanding English-language books of Jewish interest. The winner is announced in January 2024. Wish me luck.
Finally, I Would Like To Thank…
I would like to thank all of you who took the time to write a review of my book. As an author it means a lot to me and all writers who put their heart out their and the hopes their story will be read. All my reviews on Amazon are authentic, meaning I did not pay anyone or a service to write them. I would rather have few authentic reviews that hundreds of fake ones. That said, if you have read the book please go to Amazon and share you thoughts about my book with other readers.
Have a great weekend.
I will head to NYC next week to drop off my daughter to college, see some friends, and sell some books. I will be back after the holiday week for the next blog. In the meantime, be safe and have fun.
