I have been getting some great images from my readers. I put out a request to my readers to do a selfie or photograph my book Leaving Cleveland wherever they bring the book. The response has come from Idaho; Texas; NYC; Florida, Colorado; Ohio and just recently Italy. I would love to see more and am hoping to have each State in the US to be represented. So if you have my book, photograph it where you live or visit and send it to me. Here are some of the images that have been taken so far.

Turns out readers are interested in what happens next to Sam Cohen. The book intentionally ends on an ambiguous note. Some readers have asked what or who influenced me to create such passive and yet assertive protagonist. Someone who happens to be at the right place, right time with the wrong people.
I have always enjoyed Jerzy Kosinkis’ book Being There. If you have never read the book or seen the movie, I would recommend you do. It is a great commentary on modern society. The main character, Chauncie Gardiner, a very simple minded, well meaning middle aged man is thrust into the position of greatness simple because he inherited a ton of money from a Wall Street tycoon. Anything he says is considered profound simply because people associate his wealth with wisdom, only in America.
Sam is not Chance ( Chauncie) but he learns that people with wealth and position are considered brilliant regardless of their actual deeds or IQ. Sam, like Chance, is passive to the events that are occurring primarily because, like Voltaire’s character Pangloss in Candide is an optimist, above all, as the world around him falls apart. I suppose Sam is more like Candide.
Where does Sam go from there? I have an idea and when I find the time and move on from my first novel Leaving Cleveland, I will start to write down that story. In the meantime, dear reader, let me know what you think and if you purchased and read Leaving Cleveland, write a review, rate the book and/or send a photo of the book to me of it’s geographical location. Let the adventure continue.

April 12th, 2023 has been designated by Amazon as the day my book will be available to the public. The hardback version will be available May 4th 2023. That will be about 12 years from when I wrote the first sentence and began this long arduous journey to completing my first novel. Now I am using all my skills and experience as a freelancer for the last 40 years to be sure it receives the proper sendoff, which all my freelance friends know it is a Herculean task. What I have also learned is that it is no an isolated task. For the book Leaving Cleveland to reach a larger audience I need to ask for your help.
If you have read this far, thank you. I know when the word ” help” used, people either run for the hills or hopefully curiosity keeps them engaged. The help I am asking is very simple and will not take much of your time and is even sort of fun.
- If you have my book take a photo of the book in your enviroment and send it to me. I am creating a sort of ” Where’s Waldo” series to help promote the book. You do not have to be in the photo and I will not publish your full name only the city or town where it was photographed. See Samples below.
- If you read the book and really liked it go to your favorite book seller’s site and write a review and/or rate it …I do have one review on Amazon…and need about 1,000 more.
- Tell your friends about the book and if you are in a book club suggest it to your club.
